Celebrating Dance all over the world - on International Dance Day, 29 April 2015, with the official message written by Israel Galván
The International Theatre Institute ITI is happy to announce that following the footsteps of Merce Cunningham, Maurice Béjart, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Akram Khan, and Mourad Merzouki, Israel Galván - the Spanish choreographer, dancer, artiste associé au Théâtre de la Ville à Paris and au Mercat de les Flors à Barcelone – has written the official 2015 International Dance Day Message.
Since its creation in 1982, the International Dance Day is celebrated every year on the birthday of the creator of modern ballet, Jean-Georges Noverre on 29th April. It is the occasion to give homage to dance and its universality, crossing all political, cultural and ethnic barriers.
The International Theatre Institute ITI which created International Dance Day, marks this global occasion each year by inviting an outstanding choreographer or dancer to write a message. This message is translated into more than 20 languages and released throughout the ITI network (more than 90 ITI Centres and numerous Cooperating Members and dance organizations worldwide.
On the occasion of relocating ITI headquarters to China, the International Theatre Institute is collaborating with Shanghai Theatre Academy STA to celebrate the International Dance Day.
On 29th April there will be a gala evening where the message of Israel Galván is transmitted to the Shanghai audience, with dance performances from Mainland China, Spain and France.
On 30 April there will be a conference focusing on international collaboration in the field of dance, with experts from the Alicia Alonso Institute in Madrid, a member of the French Ministry of Culture, the president of the International Dance Committee of ITI as well as Chinese experts.
